About the Position: New England District is responsible for managing the Corps' civil works and military program responsibilities in a 66,000-square-mile region encompassing the six New England states east of the Lake Champlain drainage basin. The region has: 6,100 miles of coastline, 171 harbors with Corps improvements, 13 deep draft commercial waterways, 13 major river basins, and thousands of miles of rivers and streams. The District employs about 500 professional civilian employees, with several military officers serving in key management positions. Seventy-five percent of the staff is stationed at the Concord, Mass., headquarters, while the others serve at Corps project and area offices throughout the region.

    Major Duties:You will serve in a developmental capacity. You will perform duties of the specific occupational series for accomplishing a variety of developmental duties in support of the organization. Assignments are selected to broaden skills & provide practical experience leading more complex assignments. You will perform assigned portions of professional or technical projects involving such duties as: designs equipment, structures or systems using established criteria or specifications; tests material, equipment, or systems for compliance with specifications or for evaluation in terms of operational use; reviews technical aspects of applications, designs, or proposed plans for compliance with laws, regulations, standards, specifications, or other requirements. You may also perform administrative duties such as: gathering & reviewing a variety of narrative and/or statistical data to prepare reports; conduct analyses of data to support conclusions &/or provide recommendations for action.Qualifications:Click on link below to view qualification standard.

  • Specialized Experience: Applicants need have the professional knowledge of, and skill in applying, basic theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for practicing the art and science of an engineering or architectural scientific discipline sufficient to accomplish developmental assignments utilizing basic techniques, procedures, and methods; understand and complete limited engineering or architectural designs and projects; carry out, interpret, and explain basic computations and calculations; and read, understand, manipulate, analyze, interpret, and convey findings.
  • The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.
  • One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled.
  • Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).
